Princess Leia's Sexy Gold Star Wars Bikini Sells for $96,000 at Auction
Lucas Film/20th Century Fox
Get your hands on Princess Leia’s sexy gold bikini, you will not.
That’s because the iconic “slave Leia” costume sold at auction last Friday for a hefty $ 96,000. Donned by Carrie Fisher in Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi, the unforgettable bikini made its first and only appearance in the Star Wars franchise when Princess Leia was captured by Jabba the Hutt and forced to ditch her staple robe for the skin-baring getup.
And granted the sexy ensemble—complete with chain collar—didn’t get as much screen time as, say, Princess’ Leia’s double buns hairstyle, the costume is still one of the most famous outfits from all six (and soon to be seven!) movies.
With the opening bid at $ 80,000, the only thing that’s really shocking here is that the metallic getup didn’t fetch more at auction. For the $ 96,000 price tag, the anonymous winner did get a few extra tidbits in addition to said bikini including the collar, a few chain links and a signed letter of authenticity from costume designer Richard Miller.
Still, that price pales in comparison to the $ 450,000 another anonymous bidder shelled out for a miniature model of Princess Leia’s Blockade Runner space ship (Note: That sale set the record for the most expensive Star Wars relic yet).
While the bikini may have been the “cheaper” of the auction options here, that’s still a lot of cash to dish out for very little fabric.
