Here at E! News HQ, the beanie is more often used to combat office air-conditioning than to protect against a blistering cold day of 65 degrees. (Yes, we know—we’re weak!)
For those in other parts of the country still suffering from the lingering lows of this transitional season, you have a legit reason to wear a beanie all throughout the workweek—HR, be damned!
The weather, however, does not give you an excuse to be a one-trick pony. Whether you’re channeling the hipster within, forgoing a hair wash or protecting your scalp from the winds, here’s how to wear the snug hat five different ways for five days.
You may have a case of the Mundays, but the beginning of the week is oftentimes when hair is at its best: clean or freshly blown-out. If you have bangs, position the beanie so its edge sits an inch or two above your hairline and ever-so-slightly covers your ears. This lets hair, especially the bangs, shine while keeping you warm.
On day two, your scalp has gotten a bit oily and hair is looking slightly limp. Don’t fret—enlist the fisherman-like beanie to cover your forehead instead, so its ridge rests just above the eyebrows. Let your hair just fall straight down. Use an oil or shine serum on shafts and tips for extra shine and to tame flyaways. For an added effect, do as celebrity stylist Stila Chen did and try a little net action for a fancier, yet fashionable, affair.
The week is almost done—and your hair is too. It may be stringy and a little greasy, but it’s nothing a slouchy beanie can’t cover. Hide it all—your forehead, ears, bangs—under a cozy knit, and let the major slouch speak for itself.
It’s going up on a…Thursday. It’s time to add a bit of dry shampoo to the hair and tie, braid or bun it up. Beyoncé contrasts a messy side ponytail with a fitted hat, but you can cuff the rim of your favorite beanie to get the same effect.
You’ve made it to the end of week. How do you style your hair from day to night? Thanks to the product added the day before, your hair may already have the perfect texture for letting it loose in curls or waves. With all hairstyles worn with beanies, a little messiness adds an edgy appeal. Just don’t forget to brush out the curls. It’ll create a voluminous look you can wear to the bowling alley or a bar.
